Trailer Analysis
Hot Pursuit
The trailer opens with the cliche phrase "what I am about to sat cannot leave this room" and so the comedy aspect of the film is established as its stated in an almost jokey way, as we are introduced to one of the main characters her dialogue is immediately funny to show she is a humourous character and will continue to be funny throughout the film. The music in the background is upbeat and fun suggesting to the audience that's what the films going to be like, as in all comedies a scene that would be sad in real life (death of your husband) is shown to be funny with the police woman coming out with a quirky funny line rather than comforting her - adding humour. The music changes to country music as they go out in the sticks of the country before a dramatic drum, marching band plays in the background, creating tension and suspense, building to a climax of a funny scene to add more humour again - conforming to conventions that comedy trailers can't be too serious, the momentum has to be kept up to keep the audiences interested. More fun upbeat music kicks in as more funny scenes are shown in the trailer, like some physical comedy and the key dialogue of a recurring joke. Gun shots can also be heard which provide the film with the bit of action people like to see drawing in more of the male audience. To top it all of at the end there is another stand alone funny scene to show the audience again that this is a really funny film.
The establishing shot is of the police headquarters showing this film will have a police theme to it and hopefully some action too - enticing viewers to see what the police has to do in a comedy film.A medium shot of one of the main characters, the police woman instantly shows her height which could be used for humourous purposes, a long shot of the police woman at the house shows again how small she is and could also suggest how inexperienced she is for a task like this. It cuts between the police office and the house she picks the woman up from showing at that point she has to police support and back up meaning she's not alone, as the two woman manically drive away there are no more shots of the police office showing they are on their own now. Long shots of the car driving away show how they have now got into the trouble and lets the audience know they will spend the rest of the film tying to get out of this trouble. It also adds some drama and action - drawing in a larger target audience, once they are on the run together the two woman are seen in lots of two shots suggesting they have become a team and must now work together. A montage of shots reinforce this idea and show how they try to defeat the 'bad guys' together, a mixture of medium shots show action and close up shots show emotions during humourous scenes.
The film production logos are shown at the beginning which give the audience as clear idea as to what genre this film is and what to expect from it. The police woman is stood when she talks suggesting she's very official and proper - you can also see she's not that tall and this could be used for some physical humour later on in the film. The woman that has to be escorted is all in white implying she's innocent in all this, the red car which the woman drive away in connotes danger and that something bad is likely to happen to the woman. The woman stands far taller than the police woman which may make the audience think that she is in charge when in fact throughout the trailer you can see its the police woman who is in control of the situation. The red dress connotes danger, just like the car did, but could also suggest she may see some love in her life and their may be a possible love interest that makes the situation even more complicated.
